Easterns  ECO-GM  series is designed exclusively to meet the unique requirements of GM 3.1L, 3.4L, and 3.8L cars.  Vehicles with these engines have long had a reputation for being difficult to resolve with aftermarket products.  This would mean that the installer would often go through several converters before finding one that worked for even a short while.  It is very common with most aftermarket products, even the so called Problem Solvers, OBD-II, California, and Heavy Loaded products, for the light to come right back on with that dreaded P0420 code.  All too many customers end up going back to the dealer.  The whole reason that users would use aftermarket products was to avoid going to the dealership and paying to the expensive OE part. Now we have a solution.  We have developed a converter that is designed to work exactly like the factory one, but at a fraction of the cost.    Features our proprietary  ECO-GM  catalyst designed specifically for use in our product by Delphi, the original equipment manufacturer.  The result of this is a product that works flawlessly on these applications, taking care of the problem once and for all without breaking the bank.  What you need to know about California Converters Much emphasis has been placed on California emission compliance.  However, a great deal of misinformation and marketing has been centered on this term.  We will attempt to clarify how this affects you.  The State of California has a more stringent set of emission laws, which among other things, limit the use of aftermarket converters on motor vehicles unless the required certifications have been met.  Basically this means that unless the State of California has approved a certain aftermarket converter and certified that it will function on your car, you cannot use that converter on your vehicle.  Manufacturers will maintain  list of vehicles that a certain part has been approved for.  If your vehicle is not on the list, you cannot use that converter on your car in California.  However, if your vehicle is registered outside the State of California, these rules DO NOT APPLY TO YOU.  California laws only apply to California residents.  If your vehicle is registered in any other state, regardless of whether or not it has a California sticker on it, you do not need a California certified converter.  However, if your vehicle has a Low Emission Vehicle label (see the emission sticker located under your hood), you will require a converter that will work on Low Emission Vehicles. What you need to know about the Low Emission Vehicles Many automakers are now making vehicles that meet Low Emission Vehicle requirements.  This means that these vehicles are design to produce fewer harmful exhaust gases than regular vehicles.  These vehicles are equipped with more sophisticated computer systems which are less tolerant of non factory emission components, including catalytic converters.  If the replacement converter does not meet the vehicles built in test requirements, the computer will set a P0420 or P0430 code (Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank #1 or #2)  We have determined that in order to have an effective converter on Low Emission Vehicles, three basic criteria must be met.  The first is that the converter must be highly efficient and have sufficient active surface area.  The second is that the converter must light-off quickly and at low temperatures.  The third requirement is a good oxygen storage capacity. What you need to know about most aftermarket catalytic converters If you talk to the dealership about aftermarket catalytic converters for your vehicle, they will likely tell you that they do not work, and do not perform like a factory unit.  For most aftermarket converters on the market, this is true.  Most aftermarket manufacturers are trying to keep the costs of their products to an absolute minimum in an effort to be competitive.  To do this, they will attempt to use as little precious metal as possible.  These precious metals are palladium, platinum, and rhodium.  There are also many other materials contained within the catalyst which assist its function, namely cerium oxides, or zirconia oxides.  Each of the precious metals has unique qualities.  The least effective and least expensive catalyst metal is palladium.  Platinum is somewhat more effective, but also more expensive.  Rhodium is the most desirable and most effective catalyst metal, but is also one of the most expensive.  Due to price, most aftermarket manufacturers opt to use palladium based catalysts.  Without going into too much detail on the actual workings of a converter, lets just sum up by saying that most of the products out there marketed as problem solvers or OBD-II converters, or California converters use the minimum amount of precious metal, and have some method of cheating.  By cheating, we mean that the converter uses oxygen storage metals like cerium and zirconia to fool the vehicles computer into believing that the converter is functioning properly.  This only works temporarily and will result in the failure of the converter anywhere from several days to a year after the part was originally installed. How is this product different? Special notes to installer While we have taken every design precaution to ensure that this product will function correctly on the vehicles listed, it must be made clear that the original converter did not fail due to age or mileage.  The factory converter is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle.  It has no moving parts and  does not erode or otherwise wear out. Most converter manufacturers are driven strictly by price, and have not put the proper research and development into making sure they sell you a product that works and fits properly on your car.  Most brands use cheaper catalyst that does not effectively keep the CEL off.  Some only keep the light of for a couple days, weeks, or months, but cannot last long term.  Even when the product fails within the warranty period, these companies develop loopholes requiring you to produce all sorts of documentation and making you jump through hoops when you are the victim. What a catalytic converter costs become irrelevant if it doesnt even work.  The reason many of these other companies are selling converters so cheaply is because the catalyst they use in their products is so inferior to what we use.  Catalytic converters contain precious metals that can cost thousands of dollars per ounce.  They reduce the cost of their product by using less of these materials.  If inadequate quantities of precious metals are used, the converter cannot effectively keep the CEL off, and the converter will fail. Some would argue that top well know brand names would be safe bets, and some of them are less expensive than the product we sell here.  However, this is simply not true.  Converters sold under brands such as Magnaflow, Dynomax, Catco  etc. are just ordinary cheap converters of the same variety that are listed above.  They do not have the precious metal content or catalyst technology required to make a durable, long lasting, and efficient converter, nor do they flow any better than OEM converters or our product or anything else out there.
